The Mid-Atlantic braces for the invasion of the 17-year cicadas. The State of Md. tried to have some fun with it by welcoming them. Oh yeah...and eating some of them.

Your Photos

I have a couple shots for your "Photos, etc." section that I took at "The Great House" restaurant fire in Warwick, RI. The Warwick FD was using it as a training ground for their rookies. Guess who forgot to check for all the burning embers??? Oops! 45 minutes later the rookies were back for the real thing!
These are stills off the video that I shot. This was one of the most amazing fires because of the color of the flames. There was alot of blue & green fire, which I was told was caused by petroleum-based products. The "fireman photo" is just one of those great moments that happens once a year! The second is interesting because that night it was fairly cold. A cold wind was blowing up the street (where the truck is sitting) & the warmth of the fire was causing the creation a tornado-like colum of smoke! It was eerie to see it slowly rotating right in front of you!

My Recent Photos

Recent trip to Washington, DC for Mayor's Conference where we edited and went live out of the CNN Newsource bureau there. This is CNN reporter doing one of his many local sat feeds.
This is my reporter on the left doing his live shot and a reporter from German TV on the right. Very busy at CNN in DC these days.
This is the view from the roof of CNN where everyone does their live shots. As you can see...it is a breathtaking vista of DC. I asked the guy who built this rooftop setup if he ever got tired of the view. His response: "Never."

Photog Kenny from WBAL-TV. We were doing a homeland security story on board a Coast Guard vessel in the Baltimore harbor. They made us don these safety suits because the water was cold.
Reporter Mike Schu from WJZ-TV. He's a photog's reporter because he knows how to creatively use the pictures.
Pretty picture I took of the Coast Guard yard in Baltimore while waiting to do...yes...yet another live shot.

Photogs in Cities Around the World Tell You Where to Go and What to Do!
Example: "...When in New Orleans many people automatically head for Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. That's fine if you like overpriced drinks, obnoxious tourists and the smells of vomit and urine. For something different, try Frenchmen Street in the Faubourg Marigny, just downriver from the Quarter."

Shooters who Report vs. Reporters who Shoot

Which career path is more challenging? The answer is difficult and one that can only be solved by the person in question. Contributing writer Tim King explains.
